📚 Class 2 Computer – Chapter 2: Computer Parts and Uses

📚 Class 2 Computer – Chapter 2: Computer Parts and Uses

🔹 1. Introduction

A computer is an electronic machine that processes information and gives us results quickly.
To use a computer, we need to know its main parts and how they work.

🔹 2. Main Parts of a Computer

A computer mainly has four parts:

2.1 Input Devices

  • Purpose: To give data to the computer

  • Examples:

    • Keyboard: For typing letters and numbers

    • Mouse: For pointing, clicking, and selecting items

    • Scanner: To scan images and documents

    • Microphone: To input sound

2.2 Output Devices

  • Purpose: To receive results from the computer

  • Examples:

    • Monitor: Shows text, images, and videos

    • Printer: Prints documents on paper

    • Speakers: Produces sound

2.3 CPU (Central Processing Unit)

  • Purpose: The brain of the computer

  • Function: Processes data and gives instructions to other parts

2.4 Storage Devices

  • Purpose: To save information for later use

  • Examples: Hard disk, USB, CD, DVD

🔹 3. Types of Computers

  1. Supercomputer: Very fast and powerful; used in weather forecasting, space research.

  2. Mainframe Computer: Used by big organizations to store and process large data.

  3. Personal Computer (PC): Used at home or school for work and learning.

  4. Laptop / Notebook: Portable computer; can be used anywhere.

  5. Tablet: Touchscreen portable device; easy to carry and use.

🔹 4. Uses of Computers

  1. Education: Learning, research, online classes

  2. Communication: Email, video calls, messaging

  3. Banking: Online transactions, account management

  4. Entertainment: Games, movies, music

  5. Business: Billing, inventory, data management

  6. Science & Technology: Research, experiments, simulations

💡 Tip: Computers help save time, increase accuracy, and make work easy.

🔹 5. How Computers Work

A computer works in four steps:

  1. Input: Data is given using input devices (keyboard, mouse, etc.)

  2. Processing: CPU processes the data

  3. Storage: Data is stored in storage devices (hard disk, USB)

  4. Output: Results are displayed using output devices (monitor, printer, speaker)

Example:

  • Typing a story → CPU processes → Save on hard disk → Display on monitor

🔹 6. Practice Questions / Revision

1️⃣ Name any two input devices.
Answer: Keyboard, Mouse

2️⃣ Name any two output devices.
Answer: Monitor, Printer

3️⃣ What is the brain of the computer?
Answer: CPU (Central Processing Unit)

4️⃣ Name any two storage devices.
Answer: Hard disk, USB

5️⃣ Give one use of computers in education.
Answer: Learning, research, or online classes

🔹 7. Summary

  • Input Devices: Give data to the computer

  • Output Devices: Show results from the computer

  • CPU: Brain of the computer

  • Storage Devices: Save data for future use

  • Uses: Education, Communication, Banking, Business, Entertainment, Science

  • Working: Input → Process → Storage → Output
